WE A UNIQUE CHARITY THAT REPRESENTS ALL SKIN CANCERS

With a strong family history of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, we are a unique charity in that we represent all forms of skin cancer. Given that 90% of cases are preventable and almost always curable if diagnosed early, we specialise in raising awareness of prevention and early detection through sustainable educational intervention. Our passion, expertise, dedication and long-standing work in this arena is well-respected and our innovative, multi-channel approach to combatting the disease is making significant impact that reverberates borders.

OUR WORK, REACH AND RECOGNITION

We don’t do here today, gone tomorrow campaigns - we are in it for the long-run!
Our suite of five, bespoke, national accreditation programmes that infiltrate key ‘at risk’ and ‘influential’ target sectors, provide robust solutions with longevity. They require continued commitment from both SKCIN and programme stakeholders which is paramount in providing ongoing reinforcement, growing knowledge and driving behavioural and attitudinal change.

Our Sun Safe Schools and Sun Safe Nurseries national accreditation programmes support settings in their duty of care to safeguard children and provide ongoing education to influence behaviours and prevent skin cancer for our future generations. To date, we are proud to have reached over one million children and their families nationwide with vital education, gaining official recognition as ‘Best Practice’ by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Our award winning MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) training programmes have taken the hair & beauty industry and healthcare sector by storm, boasting international media coverage with many lives saved due to this ground-breaking intervention. Reviewed by the British Association of Dermatologists and officially recognised, endorsed, accredited and supported by many key industry bodies, to date, we have trained and accredited over 11,000 professionals who are now providing a potentially life-saving, free service to in excess of 1.5 million clients/patients across the UK and beyond.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to education! As such, Skcin are nationally recognised as the go-to charity for our comprehensive range of bespoke solutions and resources designed to engage, educate, and equip communities nationwide, empowering the nation to take charge of their skin health and surveillance.

Suffice to say, if you are considering signing up to the Sun Safe Workplaces programme - you are in safe hands.

HISTORY OF THE SUN SAFE WORKPLACES ACCREDITATION PROGRAMME

Sun Safe Workplaces originally launched in 2014 as our third-born national accreditation programme and we have delivered education and training to some big names in business during that time. However, due to advancements in technology and our continued growth in experience and expertise - we decided this baby was ready for an upgrade!

Following 18 months of planning, writing, designing, building, developing and testing, we are delighted to launch this new and improved version of our well-established programme - offering what is, without doubt, the most comprehensive resource to support employers and HSRs in their duty of care.

Via our improved service offering and renewed commitment to this high risk sector, we hope to save many more lives from a devastating disease that’s almost entirely preventable and if diagnosed and treated early - almost always curable.

About the David Price Melanoma Trust:

Since its inception in 1988, the David Price Melanoma Trust has a history of giving in the field of Melanoma, supporting research at St Thomas's and Westminster Hospitals, specialist health technology at Mount Vernon Hospital and sun safe awareness education initiatives in partnership with SKCIN and, previously, with Teenage Cancer Trust.

David was 34 when he died on 29th October 1988. David’s wife Alison Price said:

“David was a much loved husband and adoring father of 2 very young children. Our daughter was 4 and our son had just had his first birthday when he died. My family and I have tried to fill in the gaps but nothing will make up for what he and they have missed over the years including his incredible grandchildren.

The melanoma diagnosis came after a visit to the GP when a mole on his back started bleeding and he was sent urgently to have it investigated. David faced all of his treatment and operations with dignity and hope.

David did not fall into the category of a stereotypical melanoma statistic. He wasn’t a sun worshipper, he wasn’t a fair, blue eyed person. In fact we believe the damage was done on a cloudy day.

David would be so proud to see what has been achieved in his name and the ongoing exposure that is now in the public domain hoping to bring awareness to this awful disease which is still on the increase”.
